Moral Duty to run and to vote

"when moral principles, rather than persons, are candidates for power,to run against evil is to perform a moral duty, and for citizens not to vote is to neglect a duty."(adapted from Thomas Paine,English political theorist,1737-1809)
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
there are at least 87 million filipinos of which about 50 million could be running and or voting in 2010.
traditional politics has made the country be known as the only christian country in asia and yet at the top levels of the rank in terms of corruption.
is corruption a cause or the effect of poverty?or is poverty a cause or the effect of corruption.
we get the political parties we deserve as we get the candidates we deserve.
can a principled candidate ever come out of a party that is not responsible nor accountable to
a set of firm principles and platform?
